HIS Work Camp

“I felt the Holy Spirit through all the wonderful people I met this week, the sermons, worship, and through the ways we were able to serve others.” -student evaluation response

Theme

Harmony celebrates the beauty of unity and collaboration, much like how the four Gospels work together to tell the story of Jesus. Each Gospel offers a unique perspective, yet together they form a complete, harmonious narrative. At HIS ’25 we’ll reflect on how diverse voices and experiences can come together to create something powerful and meaningful in the life of the Church, just as the Gospels do in sharing the life and message of Christ.

Kristin Sauerbrei has spent years leading, teaching, and mentoring junior high, high school, and college students. Whether planning youth trips—both local and international—or leading large gatherings and small groups, she’s passionate about creating spaces where young people can encounter and follow Jesus. When she’s not serving as Communications Director at Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa, she’s watching Wheel of Fortune with her roommates, enjoying cheese curds with friends, or tossing around confetti just for fun.🎉

Leader Resources

Adult to Student Ratio

We require one adult for every six students (1:6) per gender. If you do not have six students, we still require one adult per gender.

  • Adult leaders must be graduated and out of high school for at least two years and exemplify mature, Christ-like behavior, and have ministry to youth as a primary interest.

  • Adult Leader & Children Notice:

    • Regarding your family, we do not allow children/infants to attend events.  If your child is registered as a participant within the targeted age group, that is totally okay!

Promote

Promotional materials are available at the button below (social media graphics, printouts, fillable flyers, etc.)

Transportation

Groups are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from HIS Work Camp; groups may either drive their own vehicles or rent vans/busses. There will be NO Synod-sponsored bussing this year, but we will help you get your own bus if you need! Click the button below for a guide to booking transportation.

**Please note, all vehicles will be needed to transport teams to and from work projects each day.

Construction Experience

It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that each group has adults with construction experience or skills.

Each adult will be assigned a leadership role on a work site, and they need to be able to lead and teach others to work alongside them on skill intense projects. Some roles need more construction skills than others, so not every adult needs to be skilled in construction.

HIS (Hands In Service) Work Camp is a work camp experience offered to high school students and adult leaders. Our mission is to encourage students and adults to strive and honor God as they serve physically, share their faith relationally, and grow spiritually.
